I’m not local but I’ve been to two gigs here with a friend who lives in the city. Giant Drag a few years ago and Blondshell most recently.
It’s a really cool and unique venue on a boat in the city.
I love that they have an accessibility scheme, as lot of smaller venues do not. Sadly I’m unable to stand for long periods of time so I’m really grateful for them setting up a chair for me on the balcony for me, otherwise I’d not be able to attend.
The sound is great in there, cool ambience too. It’s a bit of a maze to navigate but I guess that’s to be expected from an old ship!
I look forward to my next visit!

When to see Lord of the Lost supported by Esoterica, what a gig and what an amazing venue, highly recommended

Generally Thursday is the best day for clubbing if you like indie music, if not the 241 drinks might help you enjoy the music ;) Giggs are great there and the staff and security are super nice.

Superb little music venue with great atmosphere in an unusual and quirky setting. It’s a converted boat with plenty of the walls being the hull of the boat so gives a nice industrial feel.
The stage area is down in the hill of the boat with the stage at one end, some gallery standing running around the top and the lower standing running back to a bar area.
Good range of beers available with another bar upstairs which is a bit quieter to grab a drink but also understandably has fewer people serving.
Capacity overall is about 600 so an intimate setting and you’re never far from the stage.
Great place to see a gig 🤟🏻

I just want to shout out the staff member katie she was so lovely and kind to me letting me grab fresh air and checking on me when i was outside. She provided comfort and tissues when I desperately needed support!! Genuinely if anyone deserves a bonus it’s her! thank you so much katie🩷

Free entry on Thekla Thursday is a con, don’t bother and just pay the entry fee. Pressure night music is hit and miss but atmosphere was good. Expensive drinks but to be expected

Great venue.. attended to watch a gig by Robert Jon & The Wreck, can't fault the venue or the staff.. Will definitely be back in the future 👍

Wanted to have a reason to visit for years - Lord of the Lost gave me that reason. Loved every moment. Quirky, unusual, and a boat. I love boats…

Awesome venue, it’s a boat ! The live music was electrifying and straight through body and soul. Amazing would highly recommend any gig here.

Thekla is undeniably and iconic location in Bristol and I had a brilliant time there on Thursday this week. However, the mould in the womens bathroom was not iconic and frankly disgusting, not in a grunge way. Also the music was great, however the DJ looked like she’d rather be getting root canal surgery and was not enjoying her job at all
