A great pub with an unique atmosphere. Food was great and decently priced. Staff were attentive and the service was speedy.

We recently had our wedding here. The staff are amazing and go above and beyond. The venue is immaculate. The food was amazing. My guests, my partner and I absolutely loved the experience we had here. Would recommend to anyone interested in having a wedding in an environment that you'll remember forever for all the right reasons.

Amazing venue in the heart of Edinburgh. Great staff. Went for a dinner and a ceilidh and the food was fantastic. The bar prices are a little steep but the venue more than made up for it. One of the staff, Dorin, was particularly attentive and helpful on the night. The amount of running about she did to make sure the night went smoothly was insane!

Really cool atmosphere, live music and nice staff. However the food isn't really wonderful and it takes a long time to be served.
The prices are quite high, 16£ for a piece of chicken and some potatoes.

Large interior with lots of open space and great outdoor seating. Food was tasty.

Really loved the venue. The place was very well prepared for the concert we attended, the acoustics were great and the fake candles looked amazing. It was my first time at Ghillie Dhu and I'd love to return.

An incredible venue! Went to a wedding here & it was absolutely stunning. The food, the bar, the vibe was absolutely amazing. While we were mostly upstairs in the auditorium, downstairs, where the public can go, was equally as great. Cool atmosphere, excellent service & a place you’ll want to return to!

On 25th November last week, I had Xmas party of my company in there. All staffs were very kind. Our Xmas meals are also very good. And music band was good too. Looking forward to visiting again soon. Thank you!

Food was okay, but details could be improved. Lime piece had been cut too long before serving, and the slices of bread on the Tastes of Schotland sharer had undergone an unclear treatment.
The atmosphere is amazing, and personnel is super friendly

We popped into this bar on a visit to Edinburgh and had a very pleasant time. There was a live DJ in the bar and the staff were very pleasant indeed. The venue was very clean and there were two friendly security gentlemen on duty. The decor is very pleasant and it all makes for a convivial atmosphere. It was busy, so others thought so too.

Really good venue. We were at it for a wedding last week. Staff were very helpful and the event was lovely. The drinks are quite expensive though.

I enjoyed their no frills Whiskey floats and have brought guests here too. Quite a nice place tucked away just at the end of Princes Street.
I've brought visitors here and when they're out of one of the whisky on the floats, were offered a few others to swap out. Also tried the Johnnie Walker float which was nice too with guests.
Only thing is, they also serve their cocktails in the same glasses as pictured. Perhaps not many order cocktails there but found that oddly amusing.

Visited this famous location expecting an exceptional experience! It was a quite Wednesday evening, we were sat in a booth which beers could be ordered through a hatch. Food was good quality, hot and as expected. Service was slow, which I would of expected to be more attentive based on how empty the place was...live singer came on a 9pm which was a nice touch.....

Great place for a night out, good cat. Bit expensive but it's a good crowd which I like! Cosy cubs to sit in and is great at Christmas!

Came here for a quick tea with Dad.
I had the pork belly, black pudding and goats cheese risotto which is all three of my favourite things combined. My dad had fish and chips which came with a delicious chippie sauce, needless to say I stole most of that.

Lovely waitress, lovely food, lovely place.

I've been to Ghullie Dhu on various occasions and I always enjoyed myself. The pub downstairs is nice, the staff is fast and they have Staropramen on the tap which is always a nice surprise. It can get busy on Fridays and Saturdays though. There is a lovely big room upstairs where I've been to ceilidh couple of times. It's usually full of tourists so everyone is running around and no one knows what to do. So I think there are better ceilidhs in Edinburgh, for example in Summerhall where the ceilidh club meets once in a while. The band here is usually good though, trying to explain the steps in detail. Overall, if you're looking to see a quirky venue and dance some ceilidh you should go here. They only do the ceilidh on certain days so make sure you know in advance.

I've never had any form of food at the Ghillie Dhu as it's always been somewhat busy and hectic, which is a tad off putting for me so I've only been able to have a few of my "usual" drinks of standard spirits and not actually find out what sort of drinks they tend to serve when I've happened to squeeze myself in past everyone. The live performances make it a lively, more enjoyable environment, saying that.

Superb Burgers. Excellent burgers and a superb range of beers. Perfect for that lazy Sunday afternoon in the pub vibe.

I’d never been to the place, previously, but based on this little exposure to its offerings, we’ll definitely back to give it a full review, in the future

Digging into the soup first I found it flavoursome – but the kind of strong tomato taste that reminds you of pasta sauce. You don't want to drink a lot of pasta sauce so I'm glad it was just a small bowl. The roast on toast was better, the meat succulent and tasty – and not too chewy! The leaves could have perhaps benefited from a better dressing – just oil is a bit dull and tasteless. I ordered this with a Diet Coke, which turned into full fat on the way to the table, but nevermind, its only a few extra calories. I also approved of the way it was presented on a wooden board rather than a plate.

We've visited the Ghillie Dhu a few times although we've never sat down for a meal. The building used to be a church and was converted to a restaurant/bar establishment with live music on the ground floor, bathrooms in the basement floor and more live music upstairs. One of the greatest things about the Ghillie Dhu that I really like is their weekly Friday ceilidhs. We usually get in for free, unless it gets busy or there's a special occasion on where you'll need to pay at the door. The only days there are no ceilidhs are when there are special bands on so be sure to check their events calendar on their website before going! If you're not particularly going for the ceilidh, the upstairs is laden with long heavy trestle tables and benches. It's also a perfect setting for a wedding with its stained glass windows and gothic architecture which has been preserved!
