I visited the restaurant a few times. The food was excellent and served hot at the table. The staff and the owner were very attentive in ensuring that the food and service were good. I will definitely return

Delicious food and very friendly and attentive service. Would recommend the dim sum starters as well as the spring roll (pancake). The restaurant specialised in seafood. The prawns two ways are delicious. Nice atmosphere too. Medium size space but filled up quite quickly when we were there on a Thursday night so would recommend booking.

In my short stay in Edinburgh, I've eaten here twice. Once on my first day and once on my last.
The food here is excellent, presentation and flavourwise its all there.
The service is very good. They make you feel like honoured guests and will keep your water filled.
Furthermore they are very personal.
I definitely recommend their Lotus bun dessert, it is so good.

I recently dined and it left a lasting impression on us. From the moment we stepped in, the impeccable service made us feel like valued guests. The staff was attentive, friendly, and prompt in catering to my needs. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with tasteful decor that created a cozy ambiance. As for the food, every dish we tried was a culinary delight. From the fragrant and perfectly seasoned Sweet and sour chicken to the mouthwatering dim sum, each bite was a symphony of flavors. This restaurant exceeded my expectations in every aspect, and I wholeheartedly recommend it for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience.

I give 5 stars to restaurants when the experience is flawless: service, food, ambience. That’s what Loon Fung delivered.
Came here after strolling through the Botanical Gardens. We did not have reservations but were able to secure a table. For appetizers, we ordered their special dumplings, vegetarian(chives) steamed dumplings, and hot and sour soup and for mains, we ordered the seafood basket and the Singaporean style rice noodles. We asked for no MSG and they complied. The dumplings were well seasoned and flavorful. The soup was hot and tangy. Set us up perfectly for the mains. Our plates were pre warmed so amazing touch. The noodles were not oily and stringy packed with flavor with a little not overpowering heat. The seafood is supposedly their specialty and it was fresh and light. The basket was made of hash Browns that soaked up the sauce so it was amazing to eat at the end. Their chili oil also is homemade and made of whole chilies, soya, and oil.. amazing. Their dessert of fresh coconut ice cream in a coconut shell was unique and probably the best coconut ice cream I have ever had. It tasted like shredded coconut and mildly sweet.. just like having fresh coconut meat at the beach.
They wrapped up the meal experience with hot towelettes.
These additional services mean nothing if the food is not great, but to have everything come together perfectly is a recipe for 5 stars.

Had quite the feast and it was rly good. The woman who served us was so quick and professional, she never let our glasses get empty. The hot towel at the end was a really good addition to the experience.

This place is amazing, food is so worth it. We tried beef, chicken, rice and noodles and everything was on point. The atmosphere is great and the staff are so friendly and respectful. I highly recommend this place. We also met the owner, who welcomed us and was really friendly and welcoming!!

Amazing... I placed an order a couple months back and unfortunately I had to give a bad review but everything was resolved. Manager reimbursed the £40.00 plus a £20.00 voucher The curry is to die for, it was lovely. The bbq ribs were full of meat nd sauce was gorgeous. Special fried rice was adapted a bit for me as I like bbq sauce & char sui was put through for me. Manager was lively and delivery driver polite and helpful. Lovely wee gem of a place I have found. This is my new Chinese takeaway.. You must try, you won't be disappointed. Thank you

1. Exactly the flavours in a normal Hong Kong/Canton restaurant, I was super excited to have visited this place for the vibe and food in Glasgow. Thank you!
2. The price was pretty high though. I understand that quality costs but..
3. All is well except the 鮮竹卷,I was expecting it to be steamed and then it turned out fried.

The three people set menu for only £20.50 is amazing value!! The staff were super lovely and helpful. We were very lucky to arrive on a off peak time and had lots of attention from the great staff! I enjoyed eating at Loon Fung and hope to return one day :)

THE. BEST. RESTAURANT. IN. EDINBURGH. The food here is incredibly flavorful which can be hard to find in Scotland haha. The inside is beautiful and the staff here are SO kind and welcoming. Please come eat here!! The owner Alfonso is extremely humble and hardworking guy!

Went for a Dim Sum hunt, but sadly they have quite limited dim sum options. I’ll rate the dim sum 6/10. They have more cooked dishes to eat with rice.
Good service and nice cosy ambience.

The owner of this restaurant is a really kind and helpful person. We weren’t able to locate a taxi, so he called us into his restaurant. He called a taxi for us and in the meantime arranged some water and beer for us, and insisted us to not pay for it. He even offered all of us ice creams. It was a pleasure to meet such a humble person. We will definitely come to this place again for lunch/dinner in the foreseeable future. Thank you so much!

A lovely, understated dinner spot. Service is good with a very cosy, intimate setting. Dim sum selection was tasty. I would definitely visit again.

Legit great comfort Chinese food. Was there for 2 nights. I had more ingredients in my fried rice than rice. 'Wok hei' was very present in my beef black bean rice noodles. Tender pieces of beef in my sizzling spicy beef. Was overly happy with the homemade chili sauce but I preferred it to be spicier. I ended my dinner with a tart, amazing lemon sorbet in a REAL huge lemon!! Loved it especially after a hearty meal. Highly recommend this establishment to anyone who enjoys fantastic Chinese dishes.

Among the 3 best Chinese I’ve been to outside China. For me it tasted authentic Asian. Very nice and smiling staff for you all the time. Parking in the street. WC at place. HC friendly but a bit narrow entrance. A good place to celebrate. Some large tables. Strongly recommend.

I’d heard a lot of good things about Loon Fung, but despite repeated stroll-pasts over the years I’d never had the opportunity to dine there. I was glad to rectify that omission, this evening. The interior is quite striking with bamboo poles jutting out from the ceiling at alarming angles. The tables and chairs were very smart, too. I was impressed.

Average Chinese. Bog standard, slightly tired Chinese with an extensive menu. Nothing remarkable but perfectly OK if you're in a hurry and can't be bothered looking elsewhere. If you can, try Karen's Unicorn in St Stephen Street.

Great seafood. Sweet chili calamari and hot pot are my favorite dishes. A hidden gem.

Don't understand all the bad reviews. Always have a good meal in or takeaway. Yes it's more expensive but the portions are really big. It's far superior to any other takeaway in the area
Clare
Terrible. The food cost almost double the price than normal Chinese restaraunts! Got orange chicken as a takeaway, got a few bits of chicken COVERED in almonds and the chicken was bone dry. There was hardly even any sauce with it! Weirdest version of orange chicken I've ever seen. Avoid this place it's a rip off!

Avoid. Hmm...this place sucks!

Anyway. I went here with my wife and kids a few months back. Look I'm no restaurant guru, yet I know enough to make sure I don't go back there again.

The food was pretty crap and average if I'm honest. To be frank it was nowhere near as good quality or value for money than my local take away and that's saying something.

Sorry guys, but this place didn't do it for me...crap food, crap decor and very over priced for the experience as a whole

I'll try somewhere else.

We used to go here regularly in the mid seventies but hadn't been in ages until the other day when we went to celebrate grandson's second birthday. To be honest, if the food had been mediocre I would still rave about the place because the staff were so unbelievably kind and friendly. As it happens, though, the food was just great. Mango chicken and salty and spicy king prawn were particularly tasty. Will definitely be back very soon.

Poor at best.... After hearing from friends how much they have enjoyed Loon Fung over the years I was full of anticipation when sat down at the table. My initial thoughts were that the decor was somewhat dated and that the serving staff were less than interested. We were left to peruse the menu for what seemed like hours, and our drinks took ages to appear. The food, when it arrived was cold, soggy and all around disappointing, leaving us, if you'll pardon the pun, with a bad taste in our mouth.

The carry out food is great try the steamed spare ribs in black bean sauce and lemon chicken. Yes it's expensive compared to other but worth that few pounds extra

Went here for my birthday as my dad went 10 years ago and loved it. It's deff went down hill. Crap décor, crap service and really bog standerd food. All really over priced for what you get. Get a take away instead of going here. Avoid!

By Under the Grill Don’t get to Scotland’s second city much but I had been press ganged into a 3 day break in “Auld Reekie” by the She Devil to find that its still full of enthusiastic tourists being thoroughly fleeced by torn faced Edinburgh shop and bar keepers. I had to make a trip to the Loon Fung at Stockbridge to celebrate all that’s old fashioned and good about Chinese food and I wasn’t disappointed especially by my all time fav starter steamed spare ribs in black bean sauce. Not a lot of eating in them but lots of sooking and an after taste you will never forget for the rest of your life. Scores a great 8! That I have to say was the highlight of the stay apart from walking about the city taking great pleasure in pointing half of Japan to countless tourist attractions whilst locals made an art form of ignoring them. I’m not saying I’m in any way cynical about tourism in Edinburgh but when you get Pakistani’s selling kilts on The Royal mile I think its time to take stock. Well th

Had a fantastic takeaway from here. BBQ spare ribs are meaty with a great sauce. Chicken breast curry was succulent, big bits of chicken, a sauce that wasn't overly greasy or runny. The other half went for Mango chicken which again had large pieces of chicken breast, his only complaint was the large pieces of Mango weren't required and a little over powering, but he just popped them to the side. We shared a egg fried rice which was so ungreasy I felt like I was eating boiled but with the taste of fried. Next time I really want to sit in, the restaurant was lovely and the staff very welcoming even though I just popped in to collect.
