This was the first time in over a year I've been back to Skylark. Used to go a bit and absolutely love their coffee and snacks. The team is always really friendly and welcoming. The new layout is actually really good and loving the current art instillation of Portobello Beach. I look forward to returning in the near future

We visited Skylark for the first time on Saturday for a quick bite to eat at lunchtime. It has been on our list of places to go for a while but we really wished we had gone sooner. The Croque Monsieur & Madamme were both to die for - the best we've had! I understand it may be the style of the place but we did feel like the tables and chairs could be renewed - there is a fine balance between the feeling of an eclectic mix or an unpolished style but these just felt a bit like primary school tables and chairs. However, please don't let that put you off - what matters is the food and it was great for the small sample we tried :)

Modern open table plan cafe with character. Had the soup of the day with yummy toasted bread on the side. Wi-Fi access.. withholding 5 stars into I try more of the menu!

Great little place with a small menu executed perfectly. Nice selection of drinks and a cool vibe. Music nights and quiz nights give it extra points too.

Wonderful meal. First time eating out with my husband since the world was turned upside down. Had the steak special and it was lovely. The hand cut chips were beautifully cooked and the rocket salad was fresh and full of flavour

Truly delicious food, nice surroundings, and very good service.

Went with friends and our kids (three babies and two older kids in total) and were very well looked after. Kids menu was more extensive than I expected and they had crayons and colouring. My soup was tasty and the kids were happy so a win as far as I'm concerned! Staff were delightful too

An upmarket cafe idealy situated on the high street in Portobello. With its jumble of wooden benches and tables it's goes for a bit of a lived-in-but-funked-up look that they just about pull off. Food is great and hearty - their spicy soups are especially worth a mention. Staff not overly engaged but certainly not impolite. Dogs and children have been spotted lurking here, too.

My friend and I went for lunch today and both had delicious salads and very morish chips. Coffee was great too.
It has an easygoing ambience and the staff were hardworking and helpful-
Definitely going there again!

Probably one of my favorite places to go for 'casual fine dining'. Food is always top notch and creative - great choices for meat, fish and vegetarian options . Relaxing ambience, great artwork showcased and friendly stuff. Also everything is reasonable priced. Might get busy on weekend nights, so book a table! Highly reccomended.

Really interesting hipster decor, funky school desk tables, good coffee and family friendly.

Had an absolutely wonderful long afternoon/evening at this novel bistro/wine bar/cafe...... An absolutely delicious concoction made to my own suggested selection of ingredients : poached egg, wilted spinach cooked with spring onions, pine kernals, mushrooms(of course Porty ones!), and home made red pesto on the side. My flat white with oat milk was also a definite hit....gave me a real buzz. The staff are so kind - they allowed me to sit there working in peace without chasing me out after 45 minutes as would be the case in so many of the chain coffee places ie Starbucks. Should also add that the chef does an amazing job of juggling orders for a full house serving what looked like amazing, good value, healthy and unusual tapas for the evening guests.

Lunch time visit with family and friends. Nice interior, small (but tasty) menu, and good service offered by staff. From what I gather, it is good for a drink in the evening, so must try that out too!

Love this place- it helps to make Portobello the lovely seaside haven it is! Lovely atmosphere and cocktails!
Well worth popping in! The menu is simple but tasty and suits the atmosphere of the place. Loads of special events like table quizzes, live music, movie club and kids friendly events too. Best of all, dogs allowed!

Our Saturday breakfast savours! We were running a little late this morning for getting a breakfast in Portobello. Called in at Skylark and they were thankfully serving their light breakfast 10am till 4pm, which was perfect. They did an awesome Flat White Coffee and my homemade roll with tasty black pudding and bacon was delicious, then followed by an beautiful granola with yoghurt and fruit compote. The granola was probably the best I've ever had with coconut and chopped nuts. Thank you to the team for the great hospitality and fantastic food. Look forward to visiting again soon!

Very impressed. Club sandwich and pulled pork sandwich were amazing. Everything that we saw come out of the kitchen looked delicious!

The Skylark was a lovely, casual cafe. They were quick and friendly. It's quirky with old chairs and small, long tables. Their menu is great for vegetarians (my vege friend said). I had the pulled pork which was delicious. The only thing is I wasn't a massive fan of their chips or their small tables - not a massive amount of room. I
f your looking for a quirky catch with a friend, then this is great stop by the beach!

The Skylark is the sort of place in which you can happily lose yourself for an hour or two over the Sunday papers, or spend one of those “...where did the time go?” evenings with friends. Thoroughly worth a visit if you find yourself either sunning or shivering in Portobello, and also a great venue for a relaxed evening out, whether you're an EDI east-ender, or from further afield. - See more at: http://www.scrumptiousscran.com/2013/05/review-skylark-all-aboard-skylark.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ScrumptiousScran+%28Scrumptious+Scran+%29#sthash.QnDDVi3g.dpuf
Lunch Quest
I thought that The Skylark had real potential, particularly as a relaxing Sunday afternoon spot, as the place has a smart and understated charm. However, the food needs marked improvement
