A nice and lively bar right in the heart of Edinburgh city centre, just steps from Princes Street!
Descending from street level, youâll find yourself in this unusual yet elegant bar, with neat little subterranean niches to one side, and the main bar opening up to the right. The niches are great for a more private drink, with padded semicircular seating and table in the centre. Anyone over about 5ft 6in tall we want to be aware that the entry is low, so mind your head on!
A nice selection of beers and other beverages are on offer, along with a nice food menu to sate your hunger.

Great atmosphere, wide seating area and plenty wines choices we had a white dry bottle and it was delicious, we didnât have any food but the dishes looked pretty tasty and well presented!
They also have a outdoor seating area, very central location on the edge of Charlotte square. I didnât take any pictures this time but I would definitely go again.
There are also bar seats so solo wine drinkers will not feel left out đ
Perfect for a posh wine date or an elegant work dinner!

A big pub with a restaurant we enjoyed our food and drink here. Seafood features a lot in the menu as does lots of Scottish produce.
Went for the seafood platter for two and it is indeed a feast, we had fries and bread too to keep it company. Innes & Gunn original time wash it down. Didnât stop there, had sticky toffee pudding and ice cream and Anster Cheddar and Highland Blue cheeses.

Always a delightful wine bar to visit with very good food and excellent service. One of the few original bars/restaurants still trading in Edinburgh. Highly recommended for a drink or meal.

From the moment we walked in the service was excellent and continued to be throughout our lunch.

We had two boys under 6 years old with us and the staff very kindly split a main course between them as there is understandably no children's' menu.

The food was top quality and the range of wines is absolutely first class with something to suit everybody's taste and pocket.

The atmosphere is relaxing and decor tasteful. A must visit wine bar and eatery when in Edinburgh.

Yet another voucher deal (we seem to have had a few of these lately), this time for Whighams. A colleague at work had said the deal seemed good value. So, a friend and I decided to give it a go. The deal consisted of a starter and a main plus a glass of prosecco for two for ÂŁ26. I had never been to Whighams before. The venue is well established, set just off Charlotte Square. Inside, it has two distinct areas. One is all nooks and crannies from what I assume were cellar areas and the other section is much more modern. We were taken to the modern part for our dinner. The waitress who served us was very pleasant and helpful. I believe from my friend that the prosecco was very good. As I couldnât have that, I was able to swap my prosecco to a soft drink (which was offered as an option on the voucher) and we were left to peruse the menu. Much of the fish and seafood had supplements on them for the deal as, unsurprisingly, did the steak. If you didnât want to pay the extra this did limit the options a bit. However, in the end I plumped for the chicken liver pate followed by fish cakes. My dining partner went for Cullen skink followed by breaded haddock (although she had the choice of battered or grilled too so it was nice to have choice). We got given some bread, albeit a little dry, to keep us going but it wasnât needed considering how quickly the starters came out.

Christmas Pudding served with Brandy Butter. The christmas pudding received mixed reviews. While it was palatable, it was, apparently un-pudding like. And as you can the presentation was not good.

-----20 Dec, 2010-----

Trio of Iain J Mellis' Organic Scottish Cheeses with Oatcakes. The cheese and oatcakes were a hit, with the blue cheese receiving special praise. But really you can't go wrong the Mellis cheeses.

-----20 Dec, 2010-----

Mango & Passionfruit CrÚme brûlée. The crÚme brulée was bad. Very bad. It was burned. The crisp sugar layer was rather too cement-like and the rich and creamy crÚme was thick and almost doughy. It was so bad I couldn't eat it.

-----20 Dec, 2010-----

Pumpkin and Champagne Risotto with Rocket, Sweet Potato Crisp, Toasted Pumpkin Seeds and Parmesan at Whighams. I've had scallops in lots of restaurants and can say without hesitation that these are the worst. Two scallops cut in half. Tough, chewy and overcooked. Oh Whighams, I so wanted to love you!

My partner and I just spend a magical weekend in Edinburgh, but unfortunately Whigham's was certainly not the highlight. Despite seeming very promising, with nice décor, a good atmosphere, and welcoming and efficient staff, the food really let us down. I ordered the Cullen Skink, which although warming, lacked flavour. My partner's starter of fish pate was the best thing we ordered. Our main meals of fish pie and chilli chicken again lacked flavour. My fish pie tasted almost indistinguishable from my soup starter and the chilli chicken was extremely mild. We ordered a pinot grigio, which was expensive for a low grade bottle, and we didn't hang around after finishing our food. It's a shame Whigham's can't put as much effort in to it's food as it does everything else, as it could be somewhere really special. If it hadn't been for the company, it would have felt like a wasted evening. There are definitely many better places to eat in Edinburgh.

Whighamâs is a very popular West End wine bar, featuring atmospheric wine cellar booths and showcasing a dazzling wine list. Itâs smart, sophisticated and modern, but with more than a hint of old school class....Overall, Whighamâs is much as we'd remembered it: very hit and miss.

The fishcakes themselves were rather bog standard. Theyâre not as good as my mum makes. Iâm not sure if perhaps itâs because I have the cold and my tastebuds are dulled, but it seemed to me that Whighams have really gone downhill since last year. The emptiness of the restaurant compared to last Feb 14th was testament to that. I didnât finish my fishcakes.

Whighams is a great place to go for drinks. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is usually buzzy. For dining though, the juryâs out. It might have been a one-off bad day, perhaps the usual chef was away. It requires another visit methinks.

Whigham's is often a lively spot on a Friday night with the drinks after work crew! We've been a few times for drinks but not eaten here yet. Staff friendly and happy to help you pick out a wine. They have a good selection of craft beers and cocktails on the menu. Perfect for dates as they have little alcoves you can hide yourself away in.
