Stopped by for dinner last night and was very good. The only downside is on the mixed grill platter the serving size is a little small with only one lambchop and one kabob. The food was delicious and though I couldn't have the Naan bread, it looked very good. My wife had the chicken rogan josh, and was very good as well. If gluten free, highly recommend the place for good food. Our waitress Mahima was very nice and super friendly towards our 3 year old.

Hands down one of the best lunch menu I have ever seen. Affordable and super tasty. Guys check out this restaurant. The flavours would blow your mind. Loved the lunch menu! Will definitely visit again and 100% reccomend to everyone!
The pakoras, chicken tikka and chicken biriyani blew my mind. Felt just like how they make in India. Best biriyani in Edinburgh according to me!

We've been eating there with a group of 9 people. We had some starters and 9 different main courses so we could try several dishes. Everything we had was delicious and unique in taste. Among our favorites was the Tandoori Chicken Tikka.
It can get a little bit loud in the restaurant but the waiters immediately reacted to our request of turning the music volume down a bit. All in all a great evening. Would recommend š

Very quiet on a Thursday evening but lovely food with just the right amount of spice.

I'm an American traveling with a tour group. Selected this fine restaurant because it was close to my hotel. A very fortunate choice! Our server Sid was amazing, made great suggestions and was on top of our needs 100%. The food was... gorgeous! Amazing layers of flavors perfectly prepared. Yep. Eat here!

Absolutely loved the food and hospitality. Started with papadums and chutney platter , must confess I am not a huge fan of papadums served in Asian restaurants in UK as they are not of my North Indian liking but the ones served here reminded me of home and specially the coriander mint chutney. After this we ordered vegetarian and non vegetarian platters for starters . Veg one had onion bhaji and mushrooms. Non veg one had chicken tikka, kabab and lamb chops. Loved each bit of it. For main course we ordered chicken fry , lamb karahi and paneer butter masala with Shazam special garlic naans. Everything was super delicious and spot on to my taste expectations . It is now my officially my go to restaurant whenever I visit Edinburgh.

Got a chance to visit Shezan during our visit to Scotland. Loved the food weāve ordered. We ordered Chicken tikka Achari, chicken chilli garlic and plain naans, must say food was scrumptious and very much affordable. Service was quick. Iāll surely recommend this place.

The naan served was undercooked with white flour all sticky in the mouth, the curry was oily and spices were inadvertently added which ruined the taste. The desserts were good but overall not a good experience

I'm smiling as I write this because I looked and my last review was for Tandoori Mixed Grill and guess what, that's what I had the last time too. I do get other dishes from here! There was a twist on the Tandoori Mixed Grill, I asked for a hotter sauce than usual with mine and they happily made me an excellent vindaloo sauce.

This is the fifth time I've left a review and I keep doing it because they really are a great place for an Indian meal. Last time our waiter was Deva who looked after us really well.

Great food and service. 100% recommended.

Another Punjabi food joint in UK. Was just next to our hotel in Edinburgh. Tried some fantastic lamd rice and lamd curry. Even the chicken curry and prawns rice was good. Bit expensive and service was prompt but not warm.

I am from INDIA and we were in Scotland for 4 days in March 2017. It was my last night in Edinburgh. Before reaching here we tried couple of Indian restaurants but we disappointed with taste.

Food in Shenaz is perfect and authentic Indian style.

For Startes we tried chicken tikka dry. It was nicely prepared.-- 4.5/5

We tried chicken vindaloo and garlic naan. Perfectly prepared with Indian spice and juicy masala gravy. This was the first time we feel like we are eating in INDIA during our 15 days of UK tour. -- 5/5

In short this is the best Indian restaurant among all nearby Indian restaurant. Do not hesitate to choose this one if you trust my judgement. But be prepare for spicy food.

Cost: 25-30 Ā£ for 2 person

Ambience: Average.

Make sure to book a table on phone before you go. Especially on weekends. We didn't got the table during our first try on Friday evening. But we booked a table on Saturday evening before 2 hours of expected arrival time and got the reservation without any trouble.

If you want authentic Indian food which actually tastes like something that has the slightest connection to India, don't go here. Apparently this a award wining 'curry house' in Edinburg - and all I can say is that the Edinburg curry market could do with a little more competition.
We went here for dinner on our Edinburg trip and food was terrible. The servers are good (but when we had a small conversation with our server, we could see that he was later shouted at by the manager for wasting time). We had the chicken karai (chicken served in a kadhai apparently) which had an insipid tomato and onion gravy which hadn't been cooked completely. The chicken was nice, but there was no taste in it otherwise. We has also ordered the tarka dal which our server informed us was not yellow dal as its supposed to be, but a mix of five dals. There was only dal makhani as the other option, so we went with this. The dal was extremely dry and again, not cooked properly so the spices were raw and left a bad aftertaste. It was served with rice but we were barely able to eat it since it was too dry to be mixed properly. Also one serving of dal and rice will not be enough for one person since the rice serving is very small. We had ordered a Naan with the chicken and that was huge, and well made. While calling for the cheque the manager asked about the food and I mentioned that the dal was terrible and I hardly ate it, mind you it was he who asked first. Post my feedback he said they take feedback very seriously and in his 35years of service this is the first time anyone ever complained about the dal. At this point they totally lost the plot. I have been eating dal all my life too and can say with authority as a home cook too that this was the worst daal I had ever had. The manager called his senior to see what can be done. This guy just came looked at our bill and asked me if I didn't like it, asked the manager what we had and then basically just said that this is authentic punjabi cuisine and walked away! I'm not sure how this was taking feedback seriously.
What was the point of looking at my bill value and his intention was just to have us leave by then. I'm assuming all he thought was another Indians trying to grab free food. However bad this experience was, we made sure we tipped our server, he was the only good experience to this restaurant.

Also, just as an addition, the manager served bottled water instead of regular tap water which the whole of UK drinks. While this may not be a big deal generally, but a five pound bottle of water is a little much - especially when it could be spent better. And this was when I asked for regular water but he said this is what I asked for and opened the bottle before I could reply- just wanting to add to the bill amount. I would much rather have single malt at this price instead of artisan Norwegian water!
Basically, avoid this place if you can.
Unless you especially want to hear bad Bollywood item songs while eating terrible food.
(Oh, and definitely don't go here if you're indian - coz apparently no one is more racist than an outsider trying to show that he belongs)

Shezan is a nice place to have good Indian meal.
Decided to go here to fulfill my cravings for Indian food. It is located on leith street, easily accessible.
The ambiance of the place is decent except the part where they have actresses pictures on the wall! I made a reservation as it was the day of Diwali but the restaurant wasn't crowded at all.
The service is good, they served us with the food within 15 mins of the order. The staff are really kind and caring.
We ordered tikka masala, paapadum, korma, saag paneer and biryani! For bread we ordered masala naan and garlic naan. The food was incredibly delicious. Korma was the best and ofcourse the biryani! Paapadum was crisp and the sauce they served was really good, green chutney, pickle and many more.

Overall,
Food- 4/5
Ambiance- 3/5
Service- 3.5/5
Price- 3.5/5
Quantity- 4/5
Plating- 3/5

I'm so surprised with the negative reviews and low ratings on zomato. Shezan is a beautiful restaurant with gorgeous decor (minus the enormous pictures of Bollywood actresses on the wall), fantastic service and good food.
We entered Shezan without a reservation when it was packed; the waiter was polite and made sure we got a table within the next 10 minutes. We then ordered mango lassi, papad, Batli ghosht (lamb), butter chicken and nan breads.
Everything was delicious and satisfying, except the butter chicken which was slightly tasteless for what butter chicken normally stands by.
Lunch Quest
Iād looked on in slight bemusement for many years as the Shezan, established in the year of my birth, kept accruing rewards as one of Scotlandās finest places for Indian cuisine. Iād visited twice in the days before Lunchquest and been thoroughly underwhelmed, but assumed the various refurbs down the years had been matched by an upturn in the standards in the kitchen, too. I popped in on a Saturday lunchtime to check it out.

1st experience and wish to come again but tomorrow we r flying back. Had a wonderful dinner in Shezan a last meal in Edinburgh. The food taste delicious. Especially Tawa Chk with Masala Naan. Also we ordered Chk Karadai but didnt like that much. A good friendly atmosphere as well.
Prince Gastronome
Prince Gastronome. Shezanās browser logo is the first letter of their name which in their customized font and hue resembles a coiling mountain of excrement towering like Babel crowned with a thin streak which could be mistaken for the gaseous side-effect of such a discharge.
Now thatās out of the way, Shezan is one amazing restaurant.
Thatās Shezan, not Shazan, which I originally thought, or Shazam, which I so desperately wanted.
We (including girlfriend) had tickets to the evening show of Gravity at the theater up the street (immediately dating this review). Gravity is awesome, see it or buy it, ānuf said...going off topic. We both felt incredibly lucky to find Shezanāwell, my girlfriend already knew about it; I just let myself by guided, which is...OK.
Shezan claims to be an Indian restaurant but it may be too trendy to be one. Itās a colossal bistro with intentionally mismatched white and black chairs divided among polished wooden tables spaced generously but seemingly chaotically about the floor. Huge photos plastered on the walls offer the impression that I should be trying on a pair of designer Armani slacks. Thereās actually glitter on the walls, thatās how flashy this place is. It didnāt look cheap. I didnāt see a buffet anywhere; in fact, I couldnāt see a single hallmark of Indo-Canadian cuisine. The menu confirmed those suspicions, offering numerous items seldom seen in Western restaurants. The biggest surprises were the prices. They werenāt expensive. Even taking conversion into account, Iād say Shezan was downright reasonable. They even offered a three course pre-theater menu for 17.50, or about $30 Canadian, and with that you get a lot of food.
I know Iām losing your interest. I should be nitpicking or exasperating a minor quibble into a huge crisis. Iāll soon mention the food, which will convince most people in the area to try out Shezan if they havenāt already. I could carp on their portion sizes being perhaps a tad TOO generous, but what kind of criticism is that?
We opened our meal with a poppadom and pickle tray and followed that with butter chicken and chicken biryani, the latter a virtual unknown dish in Canada. We also ordered a peshwari nan which is a naan bread made with coconut milk. I thought I had good naan, but peshwari makes previous naan feel like that slightly depressing opening act before the Blue Man Group takes the stage. (Iām sorry, thatās the only band Iāve ever seen in person on stage.)
However, the portions were so large we were both unable to completely finish our plates, precluding the opportunity to take in a dessert, which we both badly wanted to try. Not for any unique Indian dish mind you, but rather for a couple scoops of moevenpick ice cream. It was winter and I didnāt care; I wanted ice cream. My girlfriend and I made guesses about what the other would order. I would have tried the white chocolate and caramelita, though the pistachio and maple walnut looked pretty good to. Unfortunately we didnāt order any of them, an issue worthy of mention again. I appreciate the desire to make us satisfied but it looks like more and more restaurants are perhaps making us TOO satisfied, preventing us from making it three courses instead of two. Iām just saying I would have paid for ice cream if the meal portions were a tad smaller.
I know, Iām waiting to be tarred and feathered by a mob of overweight Americans who would then promptly try to devour me for looking like oversized chicken in a black polyester longcoat. And I do acknowledge my reaction upon discovering the 12-inch poppadom, a stretch of starch eclipsed by the naan which followed. I was overjoyed by such generosity. The final bill came to a few pence over 30 pounds, making it cheaper for two people than an average under-posh meal in my home town.
A final word, once again I paid with a card and once again there was no tip option. Since I had no cash on hand, I couldnāt drop down a few bills for the exceptional service provided. I felt like crap afterwards. They totally deserved gratuity. At least I could repay them this way, by recommending Shezan whole heartedly. Just try to ignore what the first letter of their name resembles and youād do fine. I should run a list of restaurant which I would frequent IF I lived in Edinburgh. Shezan would be near the top of a very short list.

DECOR: 8
PLATING: 8
SERVICE: 8
FOOD: 9
VALUE: 10

OVERALL: 8.6 out of 10

I would agree with "Save Yourselves" review. Food was mediocre, service was worse. But the real insult was the cost was high for this mediocrity. Stay away, it's your only hope for salvation.

Some aspects of the meal were good, othersā¦vwell really not good. We had a biriani which was made well, good spices and seasoning but the sauce that came with it was bland tasteless 'soup'. The service was good, polite attentive waiting staff and the food came within a good time. Would I eat here again? Probably not
FOODWARRIOR
SAVE YOURSELVES. BOOOOMMMM...listen to me, i know what i am talking about, 27 yrs of hard core munching and still a slight size 8.../ fat size 6...either way, this curry house is rubbish by even tramps' standard...

key words:expensive, alright service (manager keeps giving evils), poor taste, guarantee excessive toilet time...no joke, boyfd and frd and even..wait for this...the foodwarrior herself, were all taken down to sh*t town!!

the travesty began with an extremely pricy plate of ppdoms. 7 bloody pounds...were they made by truffle fed umpa loompas??? WTF??

we were completely conned as it was listed as 85p on the menu, thats it,with no indication how they charge..turns out for 4 ppdoms and a tray of standard condiments, costs 6.95.thats evening robbery!!!

~10 pound for drinks (2 little cobra and an appletiser)..but I am not one that would opt to save dosh to forgo good food.. the basic requirement of my duty to this planet as a food warrior.. (my persistence in gonig to my favorite sechuan place in london despite repeated loo time, each time justify my dedication!)

BUT down to business, the food was nothing to write home about.. my yadeeyadee masala..impressively extensive name, low quality didnt even taste of any spice, the sauce was blitzed to resemble what you see later in your loo....no veg in sauce, yr usual bits of tomato and onion...

Saag gosht... ass boshed. (enough said)

A korma..borema..if you cant be authentic at least do a good western korma..even my chinese grandma can do a better job... bland as water...visually revolting..waterblown chicken floating on watery yellow soup.. portion size...gourmet style.. but again i dont want too much of this cack anyway..

if you gonna cook cack, you better watch your back coz FW is in town..

remember guys, average is never good enough.

till next time....FW on a crusade

Me, my sister and better half went along to Shezan, Edinburgh. I've been to this indian restaurant a few times now and always love the food. I wasn't as hungry as the other two so I got a started portion of the mixed grill and Shezan special rice. I love a juicy mixed grill and that's exactly what is was. The Shezan rice was really filling as it had all sorts of vegetables but my favourite thing! So maybe that's the reason I didn't touch my nan bread which I always love.

We filled our tummy with the papadums though I love spiced onions! Hassys and Tees got curry dishes, which judging by how much food was left they didn't enjoy. When I tried it, it was tasty but then again they are both near enough curry experts. We knew the manager so he gave us an amazing 35% discount! Great location as its central and without discount still reasonable priced

I went into Shezan on a Saturday night for dinner with a friend and it was a great experience. Even though it was a Saturday and very busy the staff were very friendly and attentive whilst serving our dishes very quickly.

To start we got 3 dishes to share; chicken pakora, lamb kebab and poppadums along with a range of sauces. The chicken pakora was very tasty and the poppadum with the mango chutney was also nice. For the main course I had the Chicken Rogan Josh which comes in a tomato sauce, it was very nice and had a good chicken to sauce ratio. I also had it with pilau rice and peshwari nan bread. My friend went for the Royal Biryani which was a mix of chicken, lamb, prawns and nuts which comes in a garlic and ginger sauce. Iām not a fan of nuts so didnāt try it but my friend really seemed to enjoy it. Overall it was a great experience and for a pretty reasonable price.

Not an authentic Indian restaurant. The food is a little bland and was very disappointing. Not sure why this place had such positive reviews online. I had the special chicken Karachi which was so bad that I ended up leaving it. I had also ordered a Lamb Biryani which was an even bigger disappointment. The Biryani was served in a massive bowl which was more than half empty. Not sure why use such a big bowl if they intend to leave it empty. The rice was half cooked and the chef had not bothered cooking it at all. In short, stay away if you want real Indian food. However the servers were very friendly and the decor is kind of hip. I won't ever eat here again?!?
