Wonderful restaurant serving well-presented and delicious Scottish cuisine. We really enjoyed the weekday lunch special which includes an appetizer and a main course. We also added the haggis appetizer. The other appetizers were the apple & root vegetable puree soup, fish soup, mussels. Our mains were the pressed lamb, trout and fried haddock. All the dishes were excellently balanced with delicious sides that complemented the main ingredient. The restaurant itself is elegant with rustic touches. Service was very good: friendly and attentive with good attention to detail in small things such as the place setting. We really enjoyed everything and felt the meal is very good value. Very highly recommended!

For our first time in Glasgow, we wanted to try haggis and we stumbled upon City Merchant and there was no regret. The time we visited offered the Pre-theatre menu, which provided a decent price for 2 courses. The restaurant served high quality food, with excellent dishes that we ordered being the blue cheese tart and mussels of the moment for our starter and the salmon and haddock for the main. All in all, the atmosphere was delightful, the staff were friendly and we will definitely come back when we visit Glasgow again!

Good seafood, nice/fun atmosphere and good service. I started with the Cullen skink soup (yummy), then had the salmon (excellent!). My husband had the pre-fixe lunch of mussels (delicious and large portion) then the fish & chips (not great, the fish was not very flavorful and the breading was not crispy).

I had a chef vegetarian special and other guests had fish courses. Everything was delicious and the service was friendly and accommodating. A lovely evening in this authentic Scottish restaurant!

Really well presented Scottish game, meat, fish and shellfish which tastes delicious. Good value for money and a decent wine list, also at a good price. A lovely ambience which plays in an understated way on the rural north west coast of Scotland and its meat, game, fish and shellfish heritage. Great location for all the Merchant City attractions. Just across from City Halls and the Old Fruit Market. A great place to start your evening of music, theatre or other live entertainment.

Good atmosphere and service. Had tasty prawn in garlic starter and an excellent rib eye steak in a great peppercorn source that actually contained lots of peppercorns. All in all highly recommended.

Impromptu dinner before going back to work the next day, and was very pleasantly surprised.
Starters, Mussels were lovely and fresh tasting, the Chicken and Lentil terrine was meaty and tasty, with just enough for a starter.
Mains, These were equally good, the Pheasant was a nice change to the usual Chicken or Duck you see on menus and the Sausages and Mustard Mash was excellent.
All in all thoroughly enjoyable, would recommend to anyone :)

One of the best restaurants in Glasgow they especially shine with fish dishes. It's certainly not a cheap place but the atmosphere is relaxed, the service warm, friendly and helpful and will reward you with a great dining experience.

Both food and service were amazing, my smoked haddock felt a bit salty in places but that is understandable and isn't a commentary on the cooking. Highly recommend for anyone looking for nice (non-pub) local food.

3 of us went on Saturday evening for the gourmet dinner and had a fantastic meal. Really recommend the hake for main course. Staff very accommodating .
Will return next time we visit Glasgow
Thanks again

I had a mussels starter, which was absolutely delicious. I then asked to have the Haggis neeps and tatties as a main. Food was excellent, service was friendly and faultless.
Would definitely recommend.

Very convenient location. It is focused on fish, but they propose some very good meat and veg alternatives. Last time, the crispy pork belly was great!

Great pre-theatre option

This was only my third visit in ten years but food and wine (particularly rioja by the glass) were excellent as always. This time, we ordered from the early evening menu and we were most impressed, especially the pressed lamb shoulder. Service from Ausilia (?) was friendly but not intrusive although it was a quiet night! Looking forward to returning....

Recommended in a guide book, I should have used urbanspoon. Basically pub food, laminated menu, we ate off the pre theatre, reasonable value but nothing to write home about.

Karine D. Would like to say that the poor reviews from a few years past should perhaps be removed, as this restaurant has pulled itself up and seems to be back in the "good food" book.

Worth a visit. Had not been for years and so booked up on a whim. Got the maggies menu, was great value. Food was well cooked and presented and very tasty. Service was also very good. No complaints for anything from me!! Will definately be back soon.

This was neither a good meal nor a bad meal. The highlight for me was the dressed crab starter which tasted fresh and looked excellent but things declined from there onwards. I had the whole Sole which was so salty I had to order beer to manage my thirst. Salt, from where I don't know but it was abundant. The service was bizarre. The waiter spoke so softly that we could not hear him, tables around us were being emptied and filled so fast that we were unwittingly hurried from our meal and to round it off the staff seemed uncoordinated and inexperienced. On the positive side, this is a lovely environment in which to eat. The building, decor and ambience are perfect. Perhaps their drive to keep things fresh and relevant on the menu has lead them to loose the direction elsewhere. We would go back, strange to say because it is worth a second chance

Waited 90 mins for food. Was Saturday night, 930 table, table was terrible, elbows bouncing off table next to us. Wait 90 minutes for main course, which was average and not that warm. Was not impressed with service, although was very very impressed how the manager handled my complaint, he refunded the meal and could not have handled the situation any better, hats off for that - maybe another time could be better.

Trading on a former good reputation. Very ordinary, and far better Merchant City restaurants.

Amazing! Had a 10/10 meal there to celebrate graduating. Heavy emphasis on seafood, amazing crab, and beautiful red snapper! Sublime puds!

Went for my 40th and was disappointed! Venison spring rolls were quite bland but the worse thing was the main with medium rare medalions of fillet which arrived a dissapointing grey overcooked accompanyment to what was slightly dry but tasty haggis! Come on City Merchant!!! Return to form needed!!!
Heracles
A super little restaurant. Focus is on Scottish fare. The food is well prepared - the steak particularly good. The haggis is lovely. Seafood is also a strength. Not cheap but well worth it. Staff were excellent - very friendly and knowlegable. Highly recommended.

Great local produce and good service.
Lunch Quest
I was quite impressed by City Merchant. It certainly represented a good value lunch, as both dishes were of very good quality and the price was very reasonable
Anyone For Spinach
The staff and service throughout the evening were absolutely delightful, a credit to the restaurant. .. The quality of the food seemed very high – City Merchant is definitely an establishment worthy of high recommendation.
