Refurbished a year ago, it is a beautiful setting. Bold green pattern on the wall, with green and turquoise, ochre and dark stained wood. Very stilish indeed.
The food is delicious. Starter of tuna tartare and tempura prawn. Beautiful combination of flavours and textures and very well presented.
Main of monkfish. Cooked to perfection! Harissa on the side it was very hot. The salad, light and perfectly seasoned.
Creme brulee, with a thicker texture but utterly delicious, a fitting end to a wonderful meal.
In brief, classy and elegant with delicious food and superb service. Not to mention a touch of magic with the very accomplished young lady playing the harp in the evening, just delightful. Very highly recommended!

Great atmosphere and good service. The food was nice but my Monkfish was bland. Mussels were fresh and tasty. And the duck from set menu was great.

Came here on a Friday night- it was quite quiet due to Easter. The restaurant is inside a hotel and the decor is amazing, and so was the ambience. Service was also impeccable and I have no bad words about it. We got the octopus to start, which was good- hardly any octopus inside but it was still tasty. We then got the lamb chops for main, which was good but lacked seasoning and had too much fat on it. We got the softshell crab burger which was magnificent, I loved the crunch and the depth of flavour. The mac and cheese was also really good, not too cheesy and well seasoned although I am a fan of a bit more spice. The fries were nice and crunchy, the peppercorn sauce wasn’t the greatest. I think 4 stars is fair but because we had a discount, 5 stars is fair. We had 30% off and our meal totalled £70. They informed us everything was halal except the beef.

What started out as a glass of wine catching up with a friend eventually turned into an amazing early dinner.
The menu offers enough variety for everyone’s palate. I had the poached pear salad and the chicken. And of course doughnuts for dessert, by which time I was so full I could not finish! All beautifully presented and full of flavours. And what about those truffle fries??
A must visit special spot ever so slightly off the Knightsbridge beaten track.
High recommend even if it’s just for a glass of wine or a cocktail

Booked a reservation here for afternoon tea because it was walking distance from Harrods. I’m happy I did! The staff were great! I was able to leave my backpack with the concierge so I didn’t have to worry about it while I dine. Some of the staff members spoke Spanish which was a nice touch of home for me. Our server was informative about the different types of teas and which experience would be best for first-timers. The atmosphere was quite nice, the interior design has a playful charm to it with tall windows which allow natural light into the space during the day. The tea, sandwiches, desserts, and scones were all delicious! Definitely will be back when I visit London again!

Beautiful tea room we've come across by chance.
We didn't book so we were glad to find a place to enjoy the afternoon tea in London on the 1st of January.
We loved the entire experience.
The service was friendly and attentive, the sandwiches and cakes were delicious they have a variety of teas and there is also a champagne alternative. We loved the ambience; it was relaxing and comfortable.
Thank you so much for a great afternoon. I will definitely be returning.

Lovely afternoon tea here. Room was cosy and felt as if we were sitting in an old English country house. As the setting is very intimate (fitting only 4 tables), the atmosphere could have been improved with some relaxing background music as it was a little awkward without this. Fantastic teas - great quality and selection. Asif and the team were very welcoming. Will definitely be visiting again when I am back in London. Thank you!

🍽 Amazing experience, although maybe slightly behind the Port Isaac restaurant. The dining room itself is more refined and the food is still of an exceptionally high standard, but I can't help feeling the Port Isaac restaurant still takes 1st place. Either way a lovely experience, and having a menu signed by Nathan Outlaw to take home is a nice little keepsake from the evening.

The Capital Bar at the venerable Capital Hotel on Basil street will fit like an old leather glove if you are looking to have a drink (or six) in the lap of cosy traditionalism. The decor and ambiance of this small pub is a throw back to the good old days. Located inside the hotel, opposite sophisticated Michelin-starred Outlaw's, it is run by youngest ever UK Keeper of the Quaich, Ceser and team. In addition to the excellent cocktails, and friendly and attentive service, Ceser also offers whisky and cocktail masterclasses which I hear are as informative as they are fun. A little pricey but well worth a visit.

Waste NOT, Want NOT.

The Capital Hotel – London is a five-star hotel located in the heart of Knightsbridge and as such ideally situated for a post-Harrods shopping treat. Afternoon Tea is a serious business nowadays and we looked forward to what surprises The Capital provided. We were met at the reception and guided up to the cosy and relaxing lounge. Peaceful music filled the air and a light breeze drifted through the room. Perfect!

delicious melt in the mouth scones, perfect savouries and the cakes...I really can't describe how delicious this afternoon tea was, one of the best I have had.

Wonderful Food. Had dinner here with a great friend, what a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is a touch stuffy, bust the food and drink made up for that quickly. This is a place I look forward to returning to.

Disenchanting. Good value can be found at top end restaurants during lunchtime, where many will offer a 3 course meal at almost half the dinner bill. The Capital is one such restaurant where a 3 course dinner will set you back £63 while the lunch is a gentler £33. Sure, some luxury ingredients will not feature but at this level (2 Michelin stars) one would hope the skills and talents of the chef would elevate cheaper cuts and more economical ingredients into extraordinary dishes.

We tried the lunch one Saturday. Incidentally, their 2** chef Eric Chavot has left the night before although I wasn't fully aware of this at the time of dining. The room is small, with about 12 or 13 tables. It's quite neutrally designed with light wood panelling, nothing that really grabbed our attention, but it was comfortable. Service was friendly & professional, although no one asked us how a dish was or if we enjoyed it. Bread was ok - nice crust, well seasoned but could be fluffier.

The meal began bold enough with a 'quail burger' and the starters were safe & pleasant rather than inspiring. They initially made a mistake by bringing us the starters for the diners sat 2 tables down. Beef Carpaccio with horseradish jelly and some rocket leaves was nothing new in flavour combinations but the quality of meat was good. We admired the single, big, plump scallop - beautifully cooked and complimented by a tomato & coriander dressing. A tapenade was superfluous as I thought it masked the subtle sweetness of the scallop.

However the mains that brought disbelief to me & my companion. Veal was just 2 slices grilled and wrapped round some green beans, a ball of frisée leaves on the side and a spoon of balsamic & olive oil sauce/dressing. Rustic: yes, 2** holder: no. And while the salmon teriyaki was well marinated, it was oddly paired with Indian condiments of mango chutney and yoghurt raita rice. Although the chutney tasted authentic, it's very strong kick overpowered all and sundry. So wrongly thought out...

Cheese and desserts brought the most enjoyment although the Comte was only 18 months aged. Hibiscus sorbet with lime & tequila foam came in a martini glass with some more summer berries underneath was a refreshing and ideal summer dessert. Even more enjoyable was the strawberry soup with peach and melon sorbets plus some small cubes of balsamic jelly - very well executed dish maximising the season's fresh fruity flavours.

But whatever joy the desserts brought was overcast by some half-effort and forgettable petit four. The baffling part was that each morsel of sweet (and there was only one each despite being 2 of us...) was 'held down' by a drop of melted chocolate, which meant the raspberry macaroon and apricot jelly were taste-contaminated. Overall, it was all just a very disenchanted experience for this level.

After lathering on the jam and cream, I took one bite of the scone and immediately sunk back into my seat, savouring the impeccable taste and quality.

Made a lunch time visit to The Capital , to see how it fairs under "newish" head chef Jérôme Ponchelle, compared to my last visit when Eric Chavot was running the kitchen. It was actually impossible to judge as the set lunch was very different from my last à la carte experience.

Ravioli of duck foie gras with leeks and summer truffles was very well made.

The Capital dining room has not changed recently, but the chef has, with Eric Chavot moving on. In his place is Jerome Ponchelle, who was previously head chef at Wiltons (and cooked for some time at the Connaught under Michel Bourdin). The tasting menu is

I don't really understand the Michelin Star system and truth be told, I don't really care too much about the much feted restaurant guide. I've been to far too many great restaurants without them and a number of mediocre restaurants who do hold the coveted

We've come for the tasting menu, with its 'five wine flight' - though why it's meant to be airborne is beyond me. We're four hungry boys, and some of the à la carte choices on Eric Chavot's menu look scrumptious: perhaps we could bung them into the dégust
