The Dickens Tavern, close to Paddington railway station is a busy Greene King pub offering the expected range of cask and keg ales along with the usual food menu. A deep pub going a long way back from the street frontage, various stairs involved. Lots of happy people waiting for the football to be screened. A happy pub.

Took the train from bath to Paddington Station and had a few hours before I needed to go to the airport and stopped in here.
Literally directly across the street from the station. It was a perfect place to sit, have a drink and a bite to eat. Friendly pub with TVs and a pool table. Got to spend time watching rugby.

Lovely pub and very spacious, looks small from the outside but big inside, great background music.
Food was good price, fish and chips and mushy peas yummy, scampi and chips bit on the small size but was nice. Dessert for 2 to share was ok but very dry needed a bit of ice cream but wouldn’t order again.
Had a pleasant evening and would return.

We came to this pub because it was pretty close to the hotel we were staying at during our holidays in London. We got a great service from Kam who kindly explained to us the difference between mushy and garden peas. Not only were we satisfied with the excellent service Kam offered, but also with the food itself. We decided to come and have dinner here almost every day during our stay in London. Very recommendable! ☺️

This is a fairly standard Greene King pub. The staff are polite and friendly. Its long thin shape makes it difficult to picture large groups being easy to accommodate here. Being slightly off the the main road it's a little quieter than you might expect. I confess that I've not tried the food here but I have no reason to believe it deviates from the standard Greene King offerings.

Had a great visit at The Dickens Tavern. Kam was very knowledgeable about the beers on tap and made great recommendations on food and beer. Was a great experience for learning more about local things when travelling from outside the country.

A lovely pub with a true English vibe. I had the Steak & Ale pie, which was absolutely marvelous. An absolute must try.
It is self service, you have to walk up to the bar to place your order, but the staff at the bar is helpful

Very nice atmosphere and good place to wait for your train, showing the NFL on Sunday night after we came out of game and we're waiting train, menu could be better choice wise and wasn't tempted to eat as not tempted by the choices, tho the food did look good when bringing it out.
Drinks were expensive but it's London.

Ordered food that never came. Forgot our order. When they released it, the kitchen was closed....they said....but I saw people getting food still....

Food was good. You order at the bar and they will then drop your food at your table. Beer selection was great. Service was fast, no waiting at all. First time there but will return on another trip.

We just got off the train and thought let's go in for some food. Last time was spot on! But.... The women behind the bar said no food was being served until 1 o'clock. Not a problem so though we would have a beer but she had disappeared we waited for a while!!! When she came back we were stood like twatts at the bar then she eventually said she was off.

Beware this pub rips you off.

First day in London and decided to try this place we ordered the 8.49 lunch special, scampi and vodka the total was £39 however with the 8.49 lunch special this should have been £28 when we quieted this with the bar maid she became very defensive and advised the system doesn’t lie. We sat and had our lunch while trying to reach a resolution the staff were dismissive advising it wasn’t there fault and it was the system nothing they could do. We suggested two drinks to reimburse us as they refused to refund us although they over charged us. Both the blonde lady and young European male did not want to find a resolution and began ignoring us. My partner ended up getting cranky, and was asked to leave after 40 minutes of back and forth they decided to refund us the £10 that they overcharged us then later advised it was the system and as it was World Cup there was no lunch special however this was not advertised anywhere on the menu. Further to this the soup was cold, sandwich soggy and scampi cold also, as we were leaving there were more people complaining. Don’t bother your self there is a nice pub across the road which is much better.

I have been there for lunch and the first impact was quite positive.
Good and relaxing pub ambience, very friendly staff and reasonably good selection of beers.
The food was quite average, But I was not expecting much from a pub.

I never miss a chance to have fish and chips when I'm visiting London! The bartenders/servers were great, very friendly! The food hit the spot!

...very traditional fish and chips with garden peas...The chips arrived unsalted, so we could add however much salt or malt vinegar we wanted.

Terrible from start to finish. First thing was the terrible beer. Ordered a pint from the Truman brewery. Couldn't even drink it, bitter and full of floating bits. Took it back to the bar and at least the barmaid replaced it but it still was a crappy pint. Then the food. I ordered a cheese toastie with chips and HD had fish and chips. What arrived was a 'toastie' with salad. Two bits of lukewarm toast with some cheese and ham slapped between. The cheese wasn't even melted. When I asked where my chips were the waitress investigated then said, we made a mistake with your order, if you want your chips you'll have to go back to the bar re-order and pay again. Really?? Are you kidding me?? Worst service ever. Bad beer, bad food, bad attitude. Avoid.

One of those catchy pubs you find around London, this one was conveniently located close to the hotel we were staying at in Paddington. Everywhere you go, it's just fish and chips, and this joint bragged about their ultimate fish and chips. I thought it was enough convincing for me to go in and try it.

The pub was quite long and deep, so you'd find most of the people way inside where the bar really is. But if you wanted to just eat and have a bottle of beer, then it's best you stay up front. The menu was simple, really. My friend and I decided to go for the Ultimate Fish and Chips with Peas - not mushy, just peas out of their pods! -, Pulled Pork sandwich on white bread, Cheese and Ham toastie, and a couple of beers. The order was quick which was nice - we were hungry from all the touring around. We loved the sandwiches and thought the pulled pork was really, really tender and just flavorful. Proper pulled pork as you can tell it's soaked up most of the juices. We weren't much of a fan of the UFC, as we found it quite bland - not sure if they really cook their fish blandly for you to season, but I think a little pre-seasoning wouldn't hurt anyone. The serving size was good, though, as it came with 4 slices of toast - 2 whites, and 2 browns - with some nice Irish butter. The chips were nice and chunkily cut.

Overall, I thought they served some proper pub food, just not sure I would go back for their fish and chips. Maybe a burger next time.
