Dai Tree
A clean simple neighborhood pub offering a selection of keg beers and ciders along with a couple of cask ales for those who enjoy their beer a little warmer. The Royal Oak is a pretty pub on Road. Clothed by wood panelled walls in sumptuous dark mahogany colours it makes a great place to sit and enjoy a beer. There is a small but interesting lunch menu, attractively priced. Also a small suntrap courtyard to the rear of the pub. All well done. I love the art deco lights and the white shiny ceiling.

One of my favourite pubs. Excellent food, drinks and atmosphere. Most recently booked a large table for drinks with friends. The staff were friendly and attentive, the music and vibe was great. Perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon.

❤️ A picture postcard East End boozer.
.
Set in the heart of Columbia Road and for me the centrepiece of Columbia Road flower market is The Royal Oak. Hoxton overground is your nearest station which is just a ten minute walk away.
.
This Bethnal Green boozer was built in 1923 and is Grade II listed. This pub may look familiar to you as it has appeared on TV in Goodnight Sweetheart and on the silver screen in both Kray Twins films.
.
This pub has been altered a little but still retains enough of its period features to give you a feel of this pub’s heritage. At the centre of the bar is an island servery which is surrounded by a parkay floor which is framed by beautiful oak panels which clad the walls. At the back of the pub is a cosy walled courtyard garden.
.
The beer line up is fairly straightforward with lots of mainstream favourites. I had a Pravha which was a nice pint and cost under six quid. The food is popular here, plenty of punters were tucking in to the British pub classics menu, Fish & Chips costs £18 which is a bit pricey by comparison.
.
The atmosphere here was great on this Saturday afternoon, there was a good mix of clientele in enjoying time in this charismatic pub. If you are visiting on a Sunday be mindful that the flower market is on so it will be extra busy.
.
The @royaloakcolumbiaroad is one of East London’s most famous pubs primarily because of its appearance and location. The East End has lost so much of its character and characters, this makes these pubs so important as reference points of what once was.

The pub was busy but service was fast. I popped in for a quick pint. Young’s Special was on top form. Service with a smile.

Never had a bad experience here. Lots of local charm and personality; you wouldn’t tell it’s part of a pub chain!
Good choices on the beer front and we’ll executed classic cocktails, along with great food. The chips were 10/10.

Nice pub that gives you feelings you dont get anywhere else away from England (im German). Loud music (which, in my opinion, does only strengthen the ambience) and many young people (You dont see that much in Germany). Very cosy and warm, nice drinks and the food is delicious as well. Only the service was unusual for me as a German (p.e. that you hahe to go to the bar to order), which was not necessarily bad tho. Nice pub!

A lovely warm pub on a cobblestone street serving a proper hand pumped pint. What more could you ask for. It’s perfect.

Great atmosphere. The perfect country pub.

Visited for a late evening Sunday dinner and we were not disappointed. We ordered the whole chicken and it was generous serving for two people. Utterly charming surroundings and perfect for an evening stroll.

UPDATE : It’s the 5th of April and the toilets are lovely indeed. 👍🏻🪩 Thank you new owner.

Used to be a nice pub but even the new owner doesn’t care about the WORST toilets in all of east london. It is absolutely horrific for a pub serving food !
Alton Letto
A lovey, cosy traditional pub in a great location. A favourite of mine for sure

Awesome spot for a Sunday roast. Food was great and the service was friendly. A great place for a local refuge from the buzzing flower market, with good beer and good vibes. A younger, hipper crowd, but nothing pretentious, and a classic English pub feel.

The vegetarian Sunday roast is absolutely delicious, probably the best I’ve ever had. Very good wine list. The staff is lovely and attentive. The atmosphere is great and the decoration is beautiful. I’d give 5 stars if it wasn’t for the deserts, their quality can be improved. Brownie came with vanilla ice cream rather than caramel ice cream (as stated), and it was cold and dry with a strong taste of flour. The honey cake was also dry. Regardless, I’d still go back as it was a great experience (maybe not the deserts next time)

50p charge for debit card transaction under ten pounds (2 pints) archaic and excessive.

Good food, nice drinks & friendly atmosphere. Contributor past & present to the local community and its rich history. Unspoilt & iconic East London pub.

Pub is located in one of the coolest and modest small street in columbia road. The ambient is great especially on the evenings. Not only this place is great for drinking, but i had a veeery nice poussin. Their back yard is also very cosy. I recommend this'll place to everyone!

Royal Oak. Went to this pub last week for the first time on a lazy bank holiday weekend and have to say It was disappointing, the decor is really nice with that real old fashioned london pub feel but the service was really atrocious, you get the distinct feeling that the staff feel their doing you a favor by serving you a drink. I'm not a girl who is easily intimidated but this surly guy with very long hair at the bar was quite rude to me, I considered calling the manager afterwards but decided that the answer was to never return..

Great pub but food far too expensive. Sorry but i don't see how you can justify charging £19 for that roast dinner! It was good but not at all worth that price.
Andrew Mascarenhas
The triple cooked chips were excellent and almost on par with the ones Heston B serves up at the Hind’s Head and Dinner. Incredibly crispy, they still maintained a good fluffy center that also soaked up some gravy. I was tempted to grab a sticky toffee pudding as well but, in an effort to retain some benefit from our pre-roast run, I abstained. It looked damn good on the table next to us though!

We found ourselves heading towards Columbia Flower Market on Sunday afternoon, not for the flowers really but for Brawn , which Giles Coren pointed out was rather decent. When we eventually reached Brawn, we were promptly informed by the staff that they are serving only set lunches for the day and handed us the menu. We took a quick glance at the menu - it cost £25 per person for a three course set and annoyingly it didn't offer any choices for the mains. That explained why there was only one table occupied at 1pm with a couple nursing their wine at the bar. So we made our way down along Columbia Road through the crowds looking for good deals. We've recently gotten a vase at home as it would probably be nice to have some flowers given that it's summer and all. But with stall owners bellowing, push

This is one of my favourite local pubs. On colourful Columbia Road, The Royal Oak is almost a traditional boozer with dark wood walls and a three-sided bar that practically guarantees you'll get served at some point. If you go on a quiet night. I first came here at 19, on a date, and was blown away by the food served in the dining room upstairs. Since, I've made infrequent forays but it's still a firm favourite as it exudes warmth, a little bit of hipster pretension and enough old school charm to find you making excuses for return visits.

The Royal Oak is most certainly the best pub on Columbia Road. My advice is to go there on a Sunday afternoon in order to catch a bit of the flower market happening on its doorstep. The Royal Oak is a large traditional corner pub. With a superb 360 degrees bar, its always full with young trendy people. The atmosphere around is always very nice and relaxed. People there always seem to be having a great time. The food is always of top quality and has little to be ashamed of (albeit its price). Do note that there is also a really nicely hidden beer garden/smoking area behind the pub.

My advice: A must do when walking around Columbia Road.

Enjoy!

This pub on Columbia Road is ideal if you are looking for a very friendly and cool atmosphere to get some drinks or food at. The latter could be a bit overpriced for what it is, however drinks and especially beers are of good quality. The outdoor seating area at the back of this British pub is fantastic in summer.
Nicky
The Royal Oak is great British pub, with a great atmosphere. Lots of young professionals come here to socialise, drink, and of course grab a bite to eat. You might think that this pub wouldn't have much to offer food wise... but couldn't be further from the truth. With everything from Neal's Yard cheese platters to steaks and daily specials this place is always a treat for food. They play cool music, and are always busy. The pub and the food both have fantastic character.
