This is a wonderful, authentic Mughal food experience. The restaurant is a premium experience with luxury surroundings. The service is exceptionally quick, which is great if you're hungry. Get the staff to read back your order as they got two dishes mixed up. However, they quickly rectified this with no fuss. You can expect to pay much more for this experience in restaurants that do not meet the quality and authenticity of this experience. Fantastic value for money and service.

I think a bit hyped. Otherwise prices are almost as much as other restaurants around.
Service was good and quick.
Place is really busy and feels bit rushed.
Mixed grill was good and most importantly quality of the meat is really good.
Sindhi mutton Biriyani was just ok/average.
Lamb kadai was very oily but tasty.
Naan's could definitely have been better

I usually always go for Turkish food to stay safe but I’ve been growing so bored with grilled meat. The food at this restaurant was phenomenal, the flavours were truly unmatched. I’m really surprised to have enjoyed it as much as I did. We got (FREE) complementary desserts! 10/10!! Definitely recommend

Aqib Ali was a fantastic waiter! He was so lovely and recommended the most delicious food. The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere with lots of bars and is constantly full every day of the week! You do not need to book but will be seated within two minutes. Could not recommend the restaurant more!

The food was very tasty 😋 and the service was on top form. Especial mention goes to HASNI for providing extra care and good service to us. Really recommend her work and she had smile throughout our time in the restaurant.

Love the mix grill! (spicy but really tasty). Garlic naan very recommend too! Butter chicken was a lil blend and the chicken was really dry. But overall the food is really nice. Will come back for sure.

I came here because my friend strongly recommended it and he's been here more than 20 times. It's a shame I didn't take a picture of everything but all the dishes we ordered were sooo delicious, well seasoned, and well cooked! A little bit salty to me but you can still enjoy them a lot with bread and rice. Highly recommend this place.

10/10 for the lamb biryani. The best lamb biryani in London. Tender and juicy meat with mild masala and spices mixed in perfectly cooked rice. Friendly and fast service with good ambience for a perfect evening.

I went to this place, based on the reviews and long lines outside the restaurant. It had great ambience and the food that we ordered was very good. The mixed grill, karahi and biryani were delicious and the nans were good too!.. we had no space for dessert so we had chai to finish off. And it was one good chai!!!

Great food and lovely flavours. I would come back for the lamb chop curry alone.

I recently dined at Dawat and was impressed by their mixed grill dish - it was fantastic! The portion size was generous, and the price was very reasonable for the quality of food. Additionally, the biryani dish was also great. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Dawat and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious and reasonably priced food in the area.

A very large restaurant with a stylish and luxurious interior that makes you feel comfortable right away. I enjoyed an excellent chana dish and daal plus naan for breakfast washed down with a plain laasi yoghurt drink. A little pricey but very good quality and service. I'd walked from Balham so I had worked up an appetite.

Had wonderful experience for dinner tonight. Great customer service by afroz one of the staff member.

Afroz had been very nice and served the menu very well. He was kind and polite. 5 stars to him.
Food is excellent with best starters and amazing faluda.
I will come back again and would recommend

The food is so flavourful. Friendly service too. Will definitely return and I recommend.

I tried kabuli pilau for the first time. Well done. The staff were also very polite. I will definitely come Dawat again.

Dawat, Tooting - one of my favourite restaurants, the waitress Sheryn always has welcoming warm smile on her face as she ushers us to our table. The food is exquisite, especially the masala fish and kebabs, I regularly buy zarda (sweet orange coloured rice), to takeaway and their kheer too is AMAAAZING !<br/>Highly recommend you visit Dawat in Tooting, it is the place to enjoy good Asian cuisine.

The best Asian breakfast in Tooting. Sunday mornings are the usual family gathering day for a traditional Asian breakfast of Halwa, puri, haleem and anything else that you fancy. The non-initiated, be aware that there is no tone down of flavours to cater for the western pallet. Its all 100% authentic Pakistani/Indian cuisine with waiters from the region go match. The Mago lassi is a great alternative to the European orange juice ick me up in the morning and the bread are made to order - hot and fresh. The entire place is so inviting with the smells of spices and baking all at the same time. You may need to reserve as the place is popular with the locals who know quality and want standard good service. There is plenty of space for large or small groups - we Asians tend to gather in our tribal packs! There is even an open place for the toddlers to play, you can watch them while you eat, how convenient. They have recently refurbished and its clean and well maintained. Casual family dining that you can rely on. If your passing through it is one of the best places to eat in the area so give it a try at any time. Four stars as the tea and coffee and desserts options are not so good but food-wise it's hard to find fault.

What an Asian restaurant. I doubt there can be many finer than this. Me & my family went on a Monday and it was so busy, the atmosphere was fab, the food, staff wer all spot on. Absolutely love this place.. expect to wait as it's very popular, but definitely worth it! ... will defo be returning

So!! We were searching for some desi( by desi I mean real south East Asian food) food we were told to check places in Tooting!! as it is 30 mins from central London..so we went inside the restaurant waited for 30 mins (without any waiting time or any number ) and then suddenly someone randomly comes and ask "are you waiting for table ?" I said yeah!!and wallah!! We got the table..<br/>After 20 min some one took the order in a way that he's pissed with his job....we order Shahi paneer, peshawari naan and pulao which didn't arrive for almost 30 mins again , they immediately gave us the food when we told them if the food is not ready we would like to go...coming towards food it was cold as the waiter told me that food was ready from past 20 mins but nobody was there to serve that...I said WTF let's concentrate on Shahi paneer and was disappointed again as it was not good..it's a complete waste of money!!<br/><br/>No management at all..and seriously I have been to many restaurants in London but never seen any waiter asking guest having food to make way for him so that he could go to adjacent table which was blocked from 3 sides..😂😂😂...complete mess of everything never going again...<br/><br/>
Foodie Doing Foodography
a place which would impress the customers from its menu only. be it murg chana or lahori fish or the chicken keema naan, which was something i found in Dawat only in whole London. loved the place

"Tried this place and kept coming back because of the service - the food is really good, have tried many dishes including the Biryani, Korma and Paneer Tikka Masala. The place has good flavours in most of their dishes and I havent really complained about anything. Some dishes are average but all-in-all, a nice place to have a family dinner. <br/><br/>Ambience: This place is a comfortable seating and nice atmosphere. A nice family kind of place. <br/><br/>Service: The service was quick - the staff is friendly as well. <br/><br/>Food: The food here is good. Everything we tried was tasty - no complains. It is flavourful just as one would expect while eating out. <br/><br/>Location: The location is easy to find but the parking is a bit of an issue so have to wait queit a while during peak times. <br/><br/>Recommendations: It is a nice place to go to once in a while. I have visited a few times and don’t see a reason to not go again. <br/><br/> "

a very modern layout, clean with plenty on the menu, choice of. 1.5 litre mineral water or a jug of tapwater. the restruant holds aleast fifteen tables with high tables at the back.you can have a take away or choose to eat in. I order lamb byriani. and chicken byriani. the meat was only two small pieces each and.The rice was properly cooked by lacked flavor, aroma no onion, no garlic taste, meat was the same tasting stewy. it was a busy night, service was ok. price was reasonable. sauces on the aide were realy small for two to share. what this place lacks in the food makes up in looks. the food may have blandness but the dishes are thoroughly cooked.they could be more generous with the meat. the place also has a play area for kids I'd say under 8 on thing i love about tooting and places like these, you will always find somewhre open late for your spicy taste buds.the total Bill came to 20 pounds byriani's 7.00 mango lasi in a jug 8.00
CURRYBOND
Our latest venue for the Curry Leg comes in solid curry territory, half way between Tooting Broadway and Bec. Dawat stands out amongst the Lidls and Aldis of the high street with a bold sign and shiny interior. I arrive on my lonesome, with no CURRYBONDers in sight, just held up on the tube or did they get run-over chasing that pesky Squirtle across the road…My time alone gives me the chance to ponder the menu on offer. Fortunately there is a hard copy as well as the entire selection also presented on a display above a cafeteria style counter which is a hive of activity. The venue therefore is shiny, bold and busy, the toilets however were best avoided so I hear.<br/> <br/>Venue Score - 5.8/10<br/> <br/>Fortunately I'm soon joined by two of the most reliable CURRYBONDers, Rimmsy and Jobbers, back to make up for his first CURRYBOND no-show. On a pleasant Summers day we search around for a refreshing Cobra to quench our curry thirst, but alas, Dawat is yet another completely dry restaurant. As a few more attendees flow in we get our Lassi on and line up the starters.<br/> <br/>Again no Bhajis, the bible is missing whole chapters now! We plump for Pakoras, Samosas and Puuris along with a stack of Poppadoms. There's mild concern as we see our starters collected from the mounds kept behind the counter. Our fears, it seems, were justified with all of the deep fried, supposed to be crunchy bits, being soggy, not very hot and generally a bit nasty. Fingers crossed then for the mains...when we're able to order...the service is a little tardy. The restaurant does fill up, but it's not heaving, so excuses were few.<br/> <br/>Our curries looked promising, certainly appear more fresh than the first course. I plump for a Degi Methi Gosht which is thick with spinach and spicy gravy and decent hunks of lamb. The Chicken Tikka Masala is good, but after a dozen previous reference curries this certainly doesn’t stand out. Accompaniments were good and the ever bold George's Legacy persuades Rimmsy to partner up on a Chilli Naan which arrives packed with green flecks of vicious scoville busting surprises...needless to say we ordered more lassis. The verdict therefore is mixed, and reflected in a fairly average<br/> <br/>Food Score - 5.8/10.<br/> <br/>We are left with the inevitable curry remains and for the first time a curry doggy bag is called for and George's Legacy goes away with a mixed curry package ready for a Curry leg re-run for lunch the next day.<br/>The bill arrives and is somewhat unhelpfully listed with random numbers...seems about right and comes to £86.76 which was £17.35/CURRYBONDer. Considering we were on lassis rather than lagers, it's relatively steep.<br/> <br/>Value Score - 4.8/10.<br/> <br/>After some disappointing starters, decent curries with a hefty price tag Dawt receives an<br/> <br/>Overall Score - 5.6/10.<br/>

Avoid this place.<br/>Special malai chicken tikka £6 was just chicken tikka with some cream on top. (This is not how you make a malai tikka)<br/> Fried fish £6.50 was just one small fillet of horrible cheap fish that tasted like fat. We couldn’t even eat it after the first bite. <br/>Butter chicken £6.50 didn’t taste anything like it. <br/>Lamb korma & chicken biryani were the only decent dishes.<br/> They charged us £2 for tandoori roti’s where else on the menu it says 80p. bad start to the year.

Discovered this place by chance today. Had their halwa poori weekend special which actually is chhole bhatoora and halwa. Delicious and well made. They even gave green chillies and raw onion salad to make it a truly desi experience for me. Will be returning soon to try more

I took a kebab role on the go from Dawat recently. It was superb. Kebab roles are often dry. But this one soft and juicy. The nan was freshly baked, the kebab succulent and the salad raita was fresh too.
Choco Sushi
Both of the lamb curries were very delicious and also very similar to one another, but I would say that the lamb mirchi had a slightly sweeter aroma to the lamb karahi. <br/>After demolishing a samosa and half of my lamb mirchi I was surprisingly full! And usually I can finish a curry, naan and small starter easily! <br/>There was a very generous helping of lamb in the curries, around 15 pieces of meat, that is a lot of meat! Usually in the curries I've had, there is only around 5 pieces swimming in a pool of curry sauce, so the curries were definitely good value for money!

The staff were very attentive and constantly asked us how our meal was. The cynic in me would say this is because we had a voucher and they knew our game, or simply because they had nothing better to do given the lack of visitors, but nevertheless it was appreciated. Beyond this, our main waiter wasn’t much of a talker, but he seemed a good lad. Not a huge amount to add – 7/10.

Dawat offers halal Indian cuisines. The food is just phenomenal and very authentic. I have ordered pretty much every single chicken dish they offer and they are all very flavorful. I would definitely recommend the chicken karahi and the mixed kebab is also very nice.<br/><br/>The only downside to this restaurant is the interior décor, mainly because it has not been given any significance. The room is filled with a few small wooden table and chairs. It can also get very busy during the evening and service is not the best I have experienced and can be extremely slow during busy times.<br/><br/>Overall, I only come to this restaurant for the food, it lacks in providing a nice dinning atmosphere.

The price of the food was reasonable. The food was well presented, and it tasted good.<br/><br/>The spice added good flavouring to the food without you having to feel it was too spicy.<br/><br/>The service was good. A group of people can reserve a private room, which is great for parties and meetings.

Dawat serves good indian food at a very good price. It caters for events and can be rented out for parties. It has nice food; mixture of vegetarian and non vegetarian. It serves halal meat allowing me to try a variety of their dishes.<br/><br/>My personal favourite is their spinach and paneer curry and would recommend it to everyone. They also sell a variety of traditional desserts. <br/><br/>On average, a meal for 2 people will cost under £25. <br/><br/>I would recommend dawat to all those looking to have Indian food with family and friends at a nice restaurant. I do however feel that the interior can be improved on as it's pink and the restaurant is too small. Nonetheless, still a great restaurant and worth checking out!

The interior of this place is in need of a make over as it difficult to work out where it stands. However, if you take away the decor factor, the food is possible one of the best Pakistani cuisines in Tooting. The wide range of traditional dishes makes you feel like you're back home. Price is also great value if you are going in a group, sharing different dishes is the best way to go about it. <br/><br/>I would highly recommend their Halwa Puri special on a weekend morning!

This place gives wrong orders and Really low grade service. Guys cannot even speak properly.<br/>They have overcharged me thrice already.<br/>please consider this as your last option if you'll are hungry or don't like disappointing surprises.

After receiving some recommendations on Twitter, we popped into Dawat to see what all the fuss was about.<br/><br/>Venue<br/><br/>You could be forgiven for passing by Dawat. Tucked in between Dadu’s cash and carry and Jasmin’s function room its unassuming pink signage can be lost in your peripheral vision as you try and negotiate the hubbub of the Upper Tooting Road. Plus, most curry aficionados will no doubt have one eye on Mirch Masala a short way further down the street, or Masaledar in the opposite direction - tough neighbours to compete with, not least due to Dawat’s somewhat confused interior.<br/><br/>The place feels like it’s caught in an identity crisis between take away, restaurant and banquet hall. Facing the back, I felt like I was back in Thailand in a dubiously decorated hotel lobby dining area, whilst Tom, looking out to the road, felt like he was in a living room; not least due to all the families present. It felt at times like we were interrupting the mid-week, evening meal, and the pale green adorning the walls added to the discomfort.<br/><br/>Other notable features were the Fortress of Solitude style lights and a large and mysterious wooden door to the left – who knows, maybe the entrance to an Aladdin’s cave of curry pleasure, but probably not.<br/><br/>Generally, Dawat lacks the frenetic atmosphere of Mirch or Lahore Karahi up the road, but neither does it impress with more cultured design and decoration. This said, our fellow diners seemed very much at home, comfortably seeking the waiters’ attention and signalling orders with the art of fingers and nods, as if the kebabs were being auctioned. I suppose we felt slightly unsure of ourselves, but we were welcomed with smiles and the food eased our concerns.<br/><br/>5/10 for Venue.<br/><br/>Starters and Sides<br/><br/>Poppadoms<br/>Mango Lassi<br/>Coconut Rice<br/>Kulcha Naan<br/>Peshwari Naan<br/>Chicken Shashlick<br/><br/>The poppadoms were some of the best, and the mango chutney was bucket-sized in its generosity, much to Tom’s approval. The chicken shashlick was standard, but with a little bit of a stronger kick than some of the more Anglicised tikka offerings elsewhere on the high street. However, perhaps we should have been more adventurous in our choice of starter.<br/><br/>The breads proved more pleasing, with the sesame of the kulcha naan adding a nutty edge to proceedings and the buttery peshwari providing the perfect compliment to the prawn curry. The coconut rice was decent too and is seemingly becoming our rice of choice (sorry pilau).<br/><br/>You’ll also note the mango lassi indicating the no alcohol policy Dawat operates. We can’t say we condone this, but always respect our hosts. 7/10.<br/><br/>Curry<br/><br/>Deigi Methi Gosht<br/>Tandoori King Prawn Curry<br/><br/>We were recommended the dal gosht, but opted for the deigi methi gosht instead. After the less than impressive surroundings, the main dishes more than made the visit worthwhile. The lamb was melt-in-your-mouth, fall-off-the-bone good and the methi sauce rich with bitter herb flavours. Likewise, the prawn was excellent. The rich tomato curry was filled to the brim with juicy butterflied king prawns and was lovingly mopped up with naan to the last. These two dishes more than made up for the choice of paint and the odd wooden furnishings - 9/10.<br/><br/>Staff<br/><br/>As mentioned, the staff were welcoming and quite attentive to surrounding diners’ whimsical gesturing. Our waiter was very smiley and several other gleams met us on entry and departure too. We also noted our options being taken down on a crib sheet order book which we appreciated for its efficiency. Beyond this, there was little of note to mention from the staff so a steady 6 out of 10 it is.<br/><br/>VFM<br/><br/>Whilst the curries were delightful and the prawn was at a pound premium, Dawat is still a fraction more expensive than elsewhere. We were charged extra for the mango chutney, which is not a policy we’re huge fans of (despite ensuring we got our money’s worth). Similarly, the litre bottle of Evian placed on our table was not free. Whilst we were quite aware what was going on we always like to give the benefit of the doubt, often to be disappointed by these unnecessary and underhand techniques. Anyway, at £40 a head with tip it wasn’t too bad, but not as competitive as it could have been; 6/10.<br/><br/>Summary<br/><br/>Dawat was never going to be top of our list when we set out on this Tooting tasting trek, but the main dishes here reached impressive heights. Evidently we weren't overwhelmed by the venue itself, but the scores have come in at a mid-table 33/50. Dawat are you waiting for? Check it out for yourself!<br/><br/>http://tootingcurryblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/19-november-2013-dawat-dawats-for-dinner.html

They serve one of the best Biryani's in London. I have had the pleasure of living in Hyderabad, India for a few months and have quite a few friends from there as well. I mention that because Hyderabad serves the best Biryani in the world in my humble opinion. So is the Biryani here as good as Hyderabad, probably not...but I tell you what, its better than most I've tried around London.<br/><br/>The rice is fragrant, the spices delightful, the chicken is tender and if you are taking away..it costs just £2.75 a pop.. I am a happy man. Don't miss the range of Kebabs and fish fry while you are at it.<br/><br/>Highly recommended

No fancy seating or lights, No fancy waiters or wine list this baby is hardcore. As soon as you walk through the doors of this restaurant on tooting broadway the first thing you will notice is the smell of fresh dough being cooked in the tandoor (Clay oven) which is very reminiscent of the highway restaurants in the Indian subcontinent.<br/><br/>Most of the main dishes and starters are on display and indeed very tempting, I always end up picking up more than I can eat. We ordered a sindhi kebab which was minced meat with incredible blend of spices and egg was used as a binding agent which gave it a very unique and palatable flavour. We also ordered seekh kebab which was decent as well. <br/><br/>For the main course we ordered chicken karahi, lamb curry and saag chicken. All of them were cooked perfectly although the lamb could have had slightly less chilly and oil. We ordered Nans for bread which were tender and very very filling. Biryani is incredibly low priced (only 2.75 pound) considering the taste and quantity that you get for it.<br/><br/>I have never had a problem finding a seat in Dawat unlike some of the other popular Indian restaurants which could be a nightmare on the weekends. The prices are fairly reasonable in comparison to its more popular neighbour down the road. <br/><br/>I would not travel from far off to Tooting just for this restaurant, however, if I am around in the area, I would not miss a chance to have a meal at Dawat.
